Project Title: Investigation of Exon Skipping and Stem Cell Therapy for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Project Abstract

I will complete a year-long Masters of Research in Biomedicine at University College London. I will take biomedical classes and spend nine months completing two research projects in the world-renowned laboratory of Professor Francesco Muntoni under Dr. Jennifer Morgan. The research projects will revolve around developing therapies for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). I will complete a mini research project on exon skipping to understand the discrepancy in the response of different DMD patients. My maxi research project will determine how stromal cells influence stem cell differentiation when using cell therapy as a potential treatment for DMD to repair and regenerate damaged muscle.
