 Biomechanical Effects of Polymer Injection into Ischemic Myocardium Post-Infarction

Project Abstract

The aim of the research is to use computational mechanics to assess the feasibility and effect of an emerging therapy for myocardial infarction, the injection of biomaterials into the ischemic myocardium. Originally introduced as a concept in myocardial infarction cell therapy to deliver cells into the infarct region, it is not clear whether the positive effects observed with this approach are at least a partial consequence of the mechanical effects of the additional material. Computational models will be developed to simulate the biomechanics of infarcted myocardium in the presence of injected biomaterial.
