Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a promising new minimally invasive technique for treating tumors. Most published work for IRE uses experiments on cells or healthy animal tissue. Therapeutic application of IRE to treat tumors remains in its infancy. By supporting collaboration between clinicians and an engineer versed in IRE, this project will perform the vital steps to translate IRE into a robust method to treat typical patient tumors reliably and successfully. This includes a multi-scale model to enhance our understanding of IRE, creating therapy devices, and creating practical treatment planning and implementation guidelines that may be used to improve the therapeutic outcome of IRE procedures.
